TREAT CIRCUS AS AN INDUSTRY.

When we think of Circus, it brings our childhood memories when our parents took us to the Circus. The artistes in circus perform many breathtaking feats and that too live not once but three times in a day throughout the year. Hence there is an urgent need to recognise the artistes who are hitherto neglected.Though Raj Kapoor,Kamalahasan and even Sharukh Khan have glorified the circus ,nothing has been done to recognise the artistes.

We applaud the performance our heroes in films when they do daring feats which are done after several retakes and many times done either by the stuntmen or their double. But when it comes to circus we see the performance live and forget about it.It is time the circus artistes also get their due and the governments both at the centre and the states set up some annual awards with cash component to recognise the circus artistes.

Addressing the media,Mr.Srihari Nair,Media coordinator of Gemini Circus said that Circus should be treated as an Industry like films and they should be eligible to get working capital finance from banks. The Gemini Circus has 300 employees which includes 40 male artistes,60 female artistes and 150 administrative and support staff apart from few animals and birds.
