Dry Eye Disease (DED) is slowly emerging as an increasingly prevalent (5-30%) public health concern worldwide. Tears are essential for protecting, nourishing and maintaining a smooth ocular surface for clear vision. When tear quantity or quality is inadequate,or when tears evaporate too rapidly, tear film instability occurs, leading to inflammation & damage to the ocular surface.this results in symptoms such as discomfort, burning, redness & blurred vision. When this condition is persistent & progressive, itis known as Dry Eye Disease. With recent advance in diagnostics,Dry Eye Disease is being recognised as a complex, multifactorial condition. It is influenced by factors such as prolonged screen time, air conditioned environments,Pollutions, contact lens use, smoking and certain medications. Systemic conditions such as Sjogren's syndrome,Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD),auto immune diseases and thyroid disorders-can further exacerbate ocular dryness. Whe left untreate, Eye disease can significantly affect quality of life.DED cna slo significantly impact surgical outcomes in cataract & refractive surgeries, making it extremely important to address the problem of dry eyes.
